Plant Characteristics:

  • Papaya plants can reach a maximum height of 30 feet, featuring vibrant flowers in shades of yellow, orange, or cream. With a preference for full sun exposure.
  • Papaya thrives in well-drained soils, avoiding sandy or heavy clay compositions.
  •  The ideal temperature ranges from 25 to 35 degrees Celsius.

 

Planting and Maintenance:

  • Planting papaya necessitates selecting a sunny, sheltered location, preferably avoiding pots due to transplant vulnerability. 
  • During spring, monsoon, or autumn, seeds are sown in soil enriched with compost and nutrients. 
  • Adequate spacing of 1.8 x 1.8 meters ensures optimal growth. 
  • Fertilizer applications, including NPK in a 10-6-10 ratio, are advised twice yearly, particularly at the onset of the monsoon and later stages.
  • Regular care involves vigilance against pests like spider mites and aphids, with prophylactic sprays as a preventive measure.
